In most societies, gender roles are seen as something fixed, “natural” and the only option.
360 high school students and 95 young people from the Roma and Egyptian community from Nikšić, Podgorica, Berane, Bar and Bijelo Polje spoke with our peer educators (30) from 11 high schools and 6 Roma and Egyptian settlements about customs that are considered “normal” and which seem to be set in stone for women and men, and are not just social constructs, but things that are relative and often change throughout history.
With the workshop “What is it that we call gender” we started part of the program Prevention of gender-based violence and promotion of healthy lifestyles or Program Y which represents an educational platform for high school students and young people, while the next workshop “Men and violence” will be implemented in February 2024 in 11 secondary schools and 6 Roma and Egyptian settlements.
Project ‘’Appreciation for Diversity as a Tool for Tackling Gender-based Violence’’ is financially supported by the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica through the Small Grants Program of the Democratic Commission.
