[:en]Center for Roma Initiatives on the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence carries out the campaign “The law cannot be bigger than life – change it”!
The campaign was officially launched on November 20, 2018 on the International Children’s Day, by broadcasting a jingle on the state radio of Montenegro. We would like to use this opportunity to thank its staff for the free broadcast.
The goal of the broadcast is to point out to the general public and representatives of relevant institutions the need to amend the legislative framework when it comes to child marriage, as well as the consequences of this phenomenon in the Roma and Egyptian communities.
The broadcast is also in progress on the national radio Antena M and radio S.
The campaign was launched within the project “Initiative to Combat Imposed Destiny”, supported by the De facto Development program implemented by the Active Citizenship Fund – fAKT, funded by the European Union, through the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro through the IPA 2016 Instrument for Civil Society.
Within the campaign “The law cannot be bigger than life – change it!” on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, a street action was held in Niksic where activists and volunteers from the Center for Roma Initiatives were stationed at the main roundabout holding various messages. With them there was a girl dressed in a wedding dress symbolizing the marriage of children from Roma and Egyptian communities. The activists did not speak, instead they held convenient messages in their hands visible to the traffic participants.
The activity was realized in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Security Center Niksic, where the police officers occasionally stopped drivers so the activists could hand them a flyer with the messages against child marriage.
The campaign was launched within the project “Initiative to Combat Impossibility”, supported by the De facto Development program implemented by the Active Citizenship Fund – fAKT, funded by the European Union, through the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro through the IPA 2016 Instrument for Civil Society.

On that occasion, the girl who was standing in the lobby as a child bride was invited to attend the session where she symbolically removed the veil in order to break free.
